Austin High
Swim Squad
Edges Cubs

Austin High's crack swim team will be seeking its third straight conference victory of the season Friday when the Friar squad journeys to Grosse Pointe Brownell Junior High to take on the dangerous Visitation entry.

The Mathews brothers played an important role in clinching the meet for Austin. Jim, a junior, took first place in the fast time of 4:38.3, while his brother John, a sophomore, took third in 4:42.4.
The Friars handed UD High its first loss in five starts last week by eking our ahar-earned 53-52 victory verdict over the never-say-die Cub contingent.
John Skantze, an all-stater last season, was in mid-season form as he headed the field in the 200-yard individual medely in 2:18.4 and the 100-yard backstroke in the exceptional speedy time of :59.0.
Tim Sullivan of UD High also was a double winner. He finished first in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events.
